Mexico City is the largest city in the Western Hemisphere, making it one of the largest cities in the world. The city is split up into 16 boroughs and over 350 neighborhoods or colonias. <\/em>In this Mexico City neighborhood guide, I\u2019ll dive into the 5 most popular neighborhoods to acquaint yourself with on your trip to CDMX. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"Roma<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Roma<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Roma is the it<\/em> neighborhood in Mexico City right now, specifically Roma Norte. It\u2019s a beautiful neighborhood with old-school mansions and new trendy bars, restaurants, cafes, and shops. Many of the businesses have taken over the old villas giving it an old-meets-new feel. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Roma is divided into Roma Norte and Roma Sur but Roma Norte gets all the love. Within Roma Norte is La Romita, a little neighborhood within a neighborhood that is home to the Casa de Cultura Romita that aims to preserve the neighborhood\u2019s history. Visit Roma Sur to go to Mercado Medell\u00edn, a traditional Mexican market with produce, food stalls, and treats to take home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Plaza R\u00edo de Janeiro<\/strong>: plaza in the middle of all the action with a replica of Michelangelo\u2019s David <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fuente de Ciebles<\/strong>: plaza with a replica of a famous fountain in Madrid <\/p>\n\n\n\n

La Romita<\/strong>: small neighborhood with a relaxing plaza<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mercado Medell\u00edn<\/strong>: local Mexican food market<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Avenida \u00c1lvaro Obreg\u00f3n<\/strong>: the main drag that goes east-west through Roma Norte with many top restaurants, bars, galleries, and shops<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you follow the tree-lined Avenida \u00c1msterdam, you\u2019ll be taken on a shady walking tour through La Condesa. The neighborhood is filled with green spaces like Parque Espa\u00f1a and Parque M\u00e9xico, two parks you must stroll through.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The lines between Roma Norte and Condesa can get a little blurry because they\u2019re right next to each other and both home to great restaurants and shops. But, Condesa has more greenery and a more laid-back vibe. If this sounds like your vibe, it\u2019s a great neighborhood to make your home base when you visit Mexico City. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stretching from Centro Hist\u00f3rico to the Bosque de Chapultepec is Ju\u00e1rez, a lively neighborhood with great nightlife and restaurants. The Paseo de la Reforma, the main drag of the city, runs right through Ju\u00e1rez. The area directly surrounding the Paseo is often referred to as just \u201cReforma\u201d. Within Ju\u00e1rez is La Zona Rosa, a historically LGBTQ+ neighborhood that has had an influx of Korean immigrants making it a small Koreatown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
